Tillman
Roy |
Roy Tillman rented the shop at 25 Wabash in the 80’s, and created Roy’s Barbeque and Burgers. Before that, it was a donut shop. There was a nother building in back, used for a barber shop. Tillman, a resident of Ypsilanti, started 30 or 40 burger shops, including onein Clinton called Boomers. Tillman rented it from Larry Read for $600 per month. Tillman was a vegetarian, but he liked the taste of meat. If cheese dripped off a burger on the grill, Tillman would pick it up and eat it. He was not very clean in the kitchen. He flicked cigar ashes right on the burger meat on the grill. After only about a year of business, Tillman sold his business to Leo Suchy in the 1980’s. Suchy bought the building rather than paying rent. Leo bought the business from Roy Tillman, who started the business in that location. He started 30 or 40 of them. Source: Leo Suchy. |
